Privacy Policy
Capitol City Credit Co. is a limited liability corporation specializing in background and credit screening. In its normal course of work, Capitol City Credit Co., collects personal information through its Online Application (OA) such as names, addresses, social security numbers (or relevant equivalent), date of birth, credit history, criminal records, employment history, credit card information, educational history, credentials and more, as permitted by law and custom. Information is obtained from a variety of sources, including but not limited to primary record repositories (courts, police, corrections departments, etc.), Departments of Motor Vehicles, prior employers, and previous educational institutions. The information is compiled into a report, commonly referred to as a "Consumer Report" or a "Background Screening Report."
Purpose of Information
We collect information primarily for the purposes of screening on behalf of employers, landlords, and other entities that have a legitimate reason for requesting the information, and only with the written, unambiguous consent from the individual subject to our inquiries. The information we collect is not used for any other purpose. It is not sold or distributed to any other parties, or used to compile direct-mail lists.
Data Storage, Retention and Destruction
Information used in the process of compiling consumer reports is electronically retained and archived in a secure environment that is password protected from unauthorized use for specific periods of time, as prescribed by law or statute. Any hard copies of consumer information used in the process of compiling consumer reports are stored in locked file cabinets located in a restricted access area within our secure facility. Once information in hard copies is no longer needed to compile a consumer report, hard copies are shredded onsite.
Security of Data
Data is transmitted using Secure Socket Layer (SSL) encryption and is stored in a secure environment accessible only to the client who requested the report and to authorized personnel who work directly on the report.
Compliance
Capitol City Credit Co. takes the security and privacy of consumer information very seriously. At Capitol City Credit Co., the confidentiality of the information entrusted to us is of utmost importance. Our staff is under strict confidentiality and compliance agreements, as are our clients. All data collection, storage and utilization procedures practiced by Capitol City Credit Co. are in compliance with all applicable laws, which include the United States Federal Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA), individual state or province background screening and privacy laws, and any other national laws, as applicable. Capitol City Credit Co. is committed to maintaining your trust and protecting your privacy, the privacy of your applicants and that of your employees.
Changes to Privacy Policy
This Policy may be modified as a result of amendments to the law or regulations or due to other reasons. In such case, an amended Policy will be posted on Capitol City Credit Co.’s website. The page providing the Policy shall contain a date as to when the Policy was last updated.
Acknowledgement of Capitol City Credit Co.’s Rights
You hereby agree that Capitol City Credit Co., its parent, subsidiaries, affiliates, and their respective successors and assigns, may collect and use certain information associated with your report, including, without limitation, any information provided in connection with the Online Application, in accordance with Capitol City Credit Co.’s Privacy Policy. Capitol City Credit Co. may share aggregate data with vendors who assist in providing its products and services; with third party business partners with whom Capitol City Credit Co. provides joint promotions; and Capitol City Credit Co. may share aggregate data if it believes it is necessary to comply with legal process (such as a court order, subpoena, search warrant, etc.), or other legal requirements of any governmental authority; if Capitol City Credit Co. believes it would potentially mitigate Capitol City Credit Co. liability in an actual or potential lawsuit; if Capitol City Credit Co. believes it is permitted by law or if doing so will not violate the law; or if Capitol City Credit Co. believes it is otherwise necessary to protect its rights or property; or is necessary to protect the interests of other users of the Software. In the event that all or part of Capitol City Credit Co. business is sold or acquired by a third party, Capitol City Credit Co. will transfer such information to the new business owner.
